Summary: On February 15, 2023, Dian Martin, Director of Learning Support Services, updated the Board of Trustees on the Perris Union High School District's Arts, Music, and Instructional Materials Discretionary Block Grant Plan as part of the initial review and consideration. The Perris Union High School District is requesting approval from the Board of Trustees to implement the Arts, Music, and Instructional Materials Discretionary Block Grant Plan. Perris Union High School District has received one-time funding to provide standards-aligned professional development and instructional materials in specified areas, obtain professional development on improving school culture, and develop diverse and culturally relevant book collections. The governing board or body of each school district receiving funds shall discuss and approve a plan for the expenditure of funds received at a regularly scheduled public meeting. It is the intent of the Legislature that each school district, county office of education, or charter school expend funds consistent with their approved plan. Program requirements are not waivable. Funds are available for encumbrance through the 2025-26 fiscal year. Local educational agencies are encouraged to proportionally use resources for purposes identified in Section 134(a)(1)-(5) and to support arts and music education programs. For purposes of this program, standards-aligned instructional materials include, but are not limited to, books for school and classroom libraries.
