Summary:
|
The Perris Union High School District would like to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with Footsteps to Freedom Underground Railroad Experience 2023 to send Dr. Casaundra McNair, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and thirteen (13) selected certificated and classified PUHSD staff members to travel out of state and out of the country to retrace the steps of freedom seekers along the underground railroad. The Riverside County Office of Education will sponsor five (4) participants, and the Perris Union High School District will sponsor ten (10) participants.
Footsteps to Freedom is a hands-on program that utilizes a pedagogy that focuses on transformational leadership and historical empathy, which is widely considered a vital leadership competency and the single greatest skill needed by leaders today. The program is designed as a transformative adult learning experience that expedites professional and personal growth. The program's foundation is the study tour and 8-day fully immersive learning experience that retraces the steps of freedom seekers from Kentucky to Canada.
Participants will depart on July 4, 2023, and return on July 11, 2023; for a total cost of $62,500.

The cost for this item will be included in the 2023-24 operating budget funded through Title I and Title II Funds, not the General Fund.
