Summary: On May 20, 2020, the Perris Union High School District (PUHSD) Board of Trustees approved the Agreement for Hazardous Material Management Services with Cardinal Environmental Consultants, Inc. (Cardinal) for the Perris High School Completion Phase, Increment 2 Project. Cardinal’s services are necessary to comply with all applicable regulations related to the monitoring and abatement of asbestos and any hazardous materials which may be identified during the demolition of the existing original buildings at Perris High School. The original cost for these services is $21,600. During the demolition activities, hazardous materials in the form of asbestos-containing materials in excess of the additional scope of services were encountered in the demolition area. The abatement of these additional materials, the creation of the additional reports, and the additional services by Cardinal resulted in Change Order No. 01 in the amount of $4,887, which revises the contract amount to $26,487.

This is being brought forward as ratification due to the project schedule timelines. The work needed to be performed before demolition of the buildings could start.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2021-22 operating budget funded through Various Facilities Funds, not the General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees ratify Change Order No. 01 with Cardinal Environmental Consultants, Incorporated for Hazardous Material Management for the Perris High School Completion Phase, Increment 2 Project.
