Summary:

Nicholis Kalantar, Heritage High School Teacher, requests the Board of Trustees' approval for a student overnight field trip to learn about and observe the filming of commercials and the University of California, Berkeley, April 12-16, 2023.
Heritage High School's Film 3 students have been given the opportunity to make new advertisements for Berkeley's BearWalk program. This is an operation organized through UCPD, where students can book a walking escort to be with them at night. Heritage Film Production alums attending Berkeley have advocated for the HHS Film Program to be the creators of their new commercials. This allows our advanced students to create advertisements with outside vendors in a professional environment.
Students will meet with Berkeley teams to plan the shoot/film interviews and footage/edit for BearWalk media. Day One is pre-production, creating scripts and storyboards, while Day Two is when all filming will be completed. Editing will be completed once the students return to campus.
While attending this trip, students will also visit the Berkeley Campus, San Francisco State University, and the University of California Santa Barbara to explore different programs and their film programs. This trip will take place during Spring Break to minimize instruction loss for the students.
This is an overnight field trip of four (4) nights, with six (6) students and two (2) adult chaperones. Transportation will be provided via District and site vehicles.

The cost for this item is included in the 2022-23 operating budget funded through Local Control and Accountability Plan Supplemental and Concentration Funds, not the General Fund.
