Summary: The College Readiness and Success Program is an initiative to support the involvement of all students in the college-going process at an earlier age. At the same time, there is still time to inform instruction and learning and increase students’ readiness for college expectations. Additionally, earlier involvement in the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) will expose students to a wealth of college planning and preparation tools to get and keep them actively involved in the process. The College Board supports this initiative by providing districts with access to additional savings when districts pay to engage at least one entire grade of students in taking the PSAT/NMSQT (‘Participating Grade’). Shifting this financial obligation from the student to the District provides greater access for students to the PSAT/NMSQT and initiates students’ earlier entry on the road to college.

The cost is $14 per exam for 8th/9th-grade students and $18 per exam for 10th/11th-grade students for a total initial cost of $78,530.00. The District received a discount of $13,588.00; the discounted total cost is $64,942.00. Of this total cost, the estimated cost to the District will be $58,630.00. The estimated cost to CMI will be $6,312.00. The cost for California Military Institute students will be billed as a direct cost to CMI per the Memorandum of Understanding between the District and CMI.

The term of this Agreement shall be for one (1) year from September 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022. The Agreement may be renewed annually upon mutual consent expressed in writing for up to four (4) additional, one (1) year terms in accordance with Education Code 17596.

This Agreement is being brought forward as ratification due to the untimely receipt of the College Board of Education Agreement.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2021-22 operating budget funded through Various COVID Funds and the Charter School Fund, not the General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees ratify Contract CB-00030385 with the College Board for the College Readiness and Success Program.
