Summary:

Hope Burns and Shelby Lethbridge, Heritage High School Teachers, are requesting approval from the Board of Education to attend the 2023 Dance Teacher Web Expo and Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, July 27-30, 2023. The event will require a four-night stay in Las Vegas at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and will be funded by Heritage High School's Arts, Music, and Instructional Materials Block Grant.
The Dance Teacher Web Conference and Expo offer over 140 master classes in movement, business seminars, and special sessions to meet the professional needs of dance teachers and studio owners. World-renowned dance professionals share their knowledge of class content and strategies for the dance classroom. This conference is an excellent opportunity for Ms. Burns and Ms. Lethbridge to sharpen and freshen their dance skills, giving them some new ideas and inspiration to use for the upcoming school year in the classroom and as coaches for the dance team. There are not many areas of collaboration on campus for their area, and having the opportunity to network with other dance professionals and learn new techniques and ideas for movement and choreography will be beneficial to our students. A conference of this magnitude is not offered presently in California, therefore, it will be necessary for them to travel to Nevada. In addition, most professional development offered in the district does not pertain to this area of teaching. This conference would allow Ms. Burns and Ms. Lethbridge to enhance their knowledge as dance instructors and professionals.

The cost for this item will be included in the 2023-24 operating budget funded through Heritage High School's Arts, Music, and Instructional Materials Block Grant, not the General Fund.

It is recommended that the Board of Education approve the out-of-state conference request for Hope Burns and Shelby Lethbridge, Heritage High School teachers, to attend the 2023 Dance Teacher Web Expo and Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, July 27-30, 2023.
