Summary: Full-time School Resource Officers (SROs) have been in place at all four (4) comprehensive high schools since July 1, 2022. This Amendment adds an additional SRO for Pinacate Middle School, within the jurisdiction of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. The City of Perris will cover fifty percent (50%) of the cost for this SRO. The subsequent agenda item is a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the District and City of Perris for their portion of the Pinacate Middle School SRO. The total estimated cost for the additional SRO is $172,334, with the County billing only for actual costs. After the City of Perris portion, the District obligation is estimated to be $86,167.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2023-24 budget funded through the General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the First Amendment to the Law Enforcement Services Agreement between the County of Riverside and the Perris Union High School District for the County Sheriff’s provision of School Resource Officers.
