Summary: Proposition 30, the Schools and Local Public Safety Act of 2012, approved by the voters on November 6, 2012, and extended with Proposition 55 as approved by the voters on November 8, 2016, temporarily increases state sales tax rates for all taxpayers and personal income tax rates for upper-income taxpayers. The new revenues generated from Proposition 30/55 are deposited into a newly created state account called the Education Protection Account (EPA). Local Education Agencies (LEA's) such as school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools receive funds from the EPA based on their proportionate share of statewide revenue. A corresponding reduction is made to an LEA’s revenue EPA entitlement. The Board of Trustees is required to approve the District's EPA spending plan for each fiscal year and it is required to be posted on the District's website.
Funding: No fiscal impact.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the 2023-24 Educational Protection Account Spending Plan.
