Summary:
|
The Perris Union High School District Governing Board acknowledges the benefits of physical activity on student health, well-being, and academic success. The district will offer high-quality physical education (PE) and may provide additional opportunities for physical activity throughout the school day. These programs will align with the district's wellness initiatives and support lifelong fitness.
Physical Education Access and Inclusivity: PE classes will be coeducational and inclusive, ensuring equal access and opportunities for all students in grades 1-12, regardless of gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
Program Requirements: The district's PE program will follow a developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with state standards. We are submitting exemptions of physical education credits per Perris Union High School District BP 6142.7. Per California Education Code 51241, the following must be valid for the student to qualify for exemptions:
Temporary Exemptions:
If granted, if a student is ill/injured without a suitable modified program or is enrolled half-time or less.
Two-Year Exemptions:
Available to students in grades 10-12 who meet five of six physical performance test standards in grade 9, with Superintendent consent. Students must be offered elective PE courses totaling at least 400 minutes every ten school days and must maintain their overall course load. Students who seek the two-year exemption will not be able to serve as a student aide, nor will they be able to have a late start or early dismissal schedule, and must be enrolled in as many courses you would take as if they were enrolled in a physical education course.
Permanent Exemptions:
For students 16 or older, postgraduate students, or those in specific institutional settings. Exempt students must be offered elective PE courses and maintain their overall course load.
Specific Actions:
Temporary and two-year exemptions require students to engage in extracurricular physical activities, with parents/guardians submitting activity logs.
Students with any exemptions must enroll in the same number of courses as if they were in PE and will not be eligible for student aide positions or modified schedules.
