Summary: Perris Union High School District’s Board Bylaws authorize the Board to provide advocacy on behalf of students, the District's educational program, and public education in order to build support within the local community and at the state and national levels. (Board Bylaw 9000(5).) Trustee Campos is requesting authorization from the Board of Trustees to advocate on behalf of the Board and the District on Assembly Bill (AB) 223, Change of Gender and Sex Identifier. Advocacy may include testimony in legislative hearings and/or meeting with legislators and staff. After hearing from Trustee Campos regarding his position either in support or opposition on AB 223, the Board of Trustees should discuss this matter. The Board should determine whether to authorize Trustee Campos to advocate on the determined position on behalf of the Board and the District. Funding: Any costs associated with this item will be a part of the Board’s operating budget.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees provide Trustee Campos direction on his request to advocate on Assembly Bill (AB) 223 on behalf of the Board.
