Summary: The District's Educational Services Department has made recommendations for updates in our district-wide course catalog. At this time, we are submitting two new Career Technical Education(CTE) courses in the RCOE Entrepreneurship/Self Employment Sector: RCOE Introduction to Business & Entrepreneurship and RCOE Intermediate Business Ethics for ratification. Both of these courses meet the UC/CSU A-G Requirement “G.”
 
RCOE Introduction to Business & Entrepreneurship will introduce business concepts including entrepreneurship, economics, ethics and social responsibility, business organization and ownership, management and leadership, human resources, marketing, promotions, pricing, distribution, financial management, and career research. This course is introductory for students in the 9th grade who are entering the Entrepreneurship/Self-Employment Pathway. This course will meet UC/CSU A-G Requirement “G.”
RCOE Intermediate Business Ethics will expose students to ethical concerns that may occur in general business scenarios. As a result, students will gain the tools necessary to analyze those dilemmas and develop solutions through an ethical decision-making framework. Students will examine the issues that corporate social responsibility, business culture, diversity, discrimination, harassment, the law, marketing practices, management and leadership, and the environment. Students will also learn about the impact of decision-making on the climate and culture of a business and its customers. This course is a Concentrator course in the Entrepreneurship/Self-Employment Pathway. This course will meet UC/CSU A-G Requirement “G.”
 
RCOE Introduction to Business & Entrepreneurship and RCOE Intermediate Business Ethics are being submitted for ratification. MSJC could not articulate the previously approved Business Courses in this pathway, RCOE Business Communication and RCOE Entrepreneurship. MSJC worked with RCOE in July to align the two new courses for articulation for our Perris Union High School District students.
 
The courses have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.

Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees adopt the new Career Technical Education Courses under the RCOE Entrepreneurship/Self Employment Sector: RCOE Introduction to Business & Entrepreneurship; and RCOE Intermediate Business Ethics.
