Summary: The District's Educational Services Department has recommended updates in our district-wide course catalog. When a course is discovered to need to be updated, it is requested that the department team work together to bring the course of study current. Chinese is being revised to align with the UC/CSU A-G requirements. At this time, we are submitting the revised World Language course, Chinese II. Chinese II serves as a seamless progression from Chinese 1, designed to fortify and broaden the foundation of knowledge and skills acquired in the previous year. It emphasizes developing proficiency in speaking and reading Mandarin while honing listening and writing abilities. Throughout this course, students will engage in a comprehensive exploration of the Chinese language and culture. They will encounter an expanded vocabulary repertoire and delve into more complex grammatical structures, facilitating a deeper understanding of the intricacies of Mandarin. Furthermore, the curriculum of this course integrates the study of Chinese culture, providing students with valuable insights into China's rich heritage and traditions. Through a systematic and structured approach, students will enhance their language proficiency and gain a profound appreciation for the cultural nuances embedded within the Mandarin language. This year-long course is intended for grades nine through twelve as a world language credit and is pending approval from the UC/CSU Doorways for the A-G requirement of "E" World Languages. The textbook intended for this course is titled Integrate Chinese Level 1 Part I & II by Yuehua Liu, Tao-Chung Yao and was published in 2016 by Cheng & Tsui Company, INC. with the book ISBN: 978-1-62291-135-6.
