Summary: The California Career Technical Education Incentive Grant (CTEIG) program has been established as a state education, economic, and workforce development initiative with the goal of providing pupils with the knowledge and skills necessary to transition to employment and postsecondary education.  The purpose of this program is to encourage the development of new Career Technical Education (CTE) programs and enhance and maintain current CTE programs.  It is the intent of the Perris Union High School District (PUHSD) to utilize CTEIG funds to upgrade the facilities at Perris Lake High School to create a multi-use space to offer Career Technical Education pathways as determined by the labor market demands and local surveys.

The District has requested a Proposal from PJHM Architects, Inc. for the MPR Remodel Project at Perris Lake High School.  This project includes the removal of interior walls, improvements to the building's interior spaces, and electrical and plumbing upgrades necessary to accommodate a Culinary Program, and other necessary improvements to this building.  The design of this project will also create a functional outdoor teaching area as well as provide the design of all Division of State Architect required site improvements for ADA compliance.  PJHM’s architectural services will include the planning and design of the improvements to the MPR building as well as ancillary spaces necessary for the improvements at the MPR building.  These services include the development of project drawings and specifications from design development through DSA approval and project completion, as well as the use of a Culinary Design Consultant.  Architectural fees, including the Culinary Consultant’s services and reimbursables for the project, are based on a set architectural service sliding scale.  These fees are estimated to be $153,750 based on an estimated construction cost of $950,000.
Funding: The cost for this item will be included in the 2021-22 operating budget funded through the Local Control Accountability Plan and Career Technical Education Incentive Grant, not the General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the Architectural Services Proposal from PJHM Architects, Incorporated for the design of the Perris Lake High School MPR Remodel and Improvement Project.
