Summary: The California Military Institute (CMI) Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) Goal #3 states that “All departments and sites will provide a safe and positive environment for staff and students.” Capturing Kids Hearts equips teachers, coaches, administrators, and district leaders to implement transformational processes focused on cultivating relational capacity, improving school culture, strengthening trust between teachers and students, building self-managing classrooms, creating accountability, improving academic performance, and fostering trauma-informed care. This contract is a transformational, multi-year process for campus-level administrators and teachers that dramatically elevates the academic and behavioral standards of students and campuses to strengthen student connectedness to others by enhancing healthy bonds with teachers; provide consistent rules of conduct, with reduced disciplinary escalations and referrals; provide a dramatic reduction in truancy and dropouts; and provide reduced negative behaviors like isolation, violence, early sexuality, and substance use.

Services include one (1) two-consecutive day training sessions for professional development and a premium online subscription for ongoing staff support.

The term of this Agreement shall be from June 16, 2022, through May 30, 2023, at an estimated cost of $27,500.
Funding: The cost for this item will be included in the 2022-23 operating budget funded through the Charter Local Control Accountability Plan Supplemental and Concentration Funds, not the Charter General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the Agreement with The Flippen Group, LLC DBA Capturing Kids’ Hearts for professional development at the California Military Institute.
