Summary: The District's Educational Services Department has made recommendations for updates in our district-wide course catalog. We are submitting a new math course called Mathematical Thinking. This course does not meet the A-G requirements.

Mathematical Thinking will expose students to various math topics through the lens of the standards of mathematical practices. Students will routinely work through real-world situations where they will need to apply knowledge from prior/current courses, such as Algebra and Geometry, to solve. In this course, students will not only be solving complex math problems, but they will also learn how to persevere through new learning, make connections between different topics, the reason both abstractly and quantitatively, model thinking, use a variety of tools, use structure, make connections using repeated reasoning, and construct arguments and critique others. One of the goals of this course is to provide more time and support to master the content needed for standards to be met.

The course above has been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
