Summary:
|
The California Department of Education has established specific primary adoption years for new instructional materials within the different subject areas. 2006/2007 was the last time instructional materials were adopted; however, the latest instructional materials date was made in 2018.
The Perris Union High School District Science Science teachers met during the 2023/2024 school year. Together, they reviewed and evaluated various textbooks to determine which ones would be most beneficial for teaching the specific science courses. Science teachers piloted materials from two publishers, McGraw-Hill and Discovery Education. All the district schools were involved in the Science pilot for high school courses. Each teacher received class sets and digital platform access. Once the selection process was completed, the Science teachers voted and approved textbooks for high school. All the textbooks are aligned with the California Next Generation Science Standards. All the books also come in electronic format. At this time, we are proposing the approval of new textbooks for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science and Physical with Earth Science (Science 9). The materials for Science 9 are digital only. Following the adoption, designated Science courses will be rewritten to align with the new textbooks.
Piloted Materials:
Discovery Education
-California Biology
-California Chemistry
-California Physics
-Earth and Space Science
McGraw Hill
-California Biology
-California Chemistry
-California Physics
-Inspire Physical Science/Earth
-Environmental Science
All Science teachers were invited to participate in the publisher presentations, and then the evaluation process and their responses were compiled to make the final decision. Listed below are the names of the instructional materials that the Science instructors have chosen.
The proposed Science textbooks have been approved by the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
