Summary: The District's Educational Services Department has recommended updates in our district-wide course catalog. We are submitting a revised RCOE Career Technical Education course in the Health Science & Medical Technology Sector titled RCOE Intermediate Health Prevention & Treatment. This course has had a name change as the previous course name was RCOE Anatomy & Physiology for Health Professionals. This course does meet the UC/CSU A-G requirement "D" and has been categorized as a concentrator course in the Patient Care pathway. RCOE Intermediate Health Prevention & Treatment is a rigorous course designed around the framework of the health profession in general. It provides a solid foundation for understanding the human body's structure and systems and how they interact to maintain homeostasis due to illness and disease (e.g., diabetes, dehydration, or hypoglycemia). The clinical material and class labs are designed to bridge the concepts presented in the lecture to real-life applications and scenarios. This course has the pre-requisite of Algebra I requirement, and Biology is recommended. The textbook used by RCOE for this course is Essentials of Human Anatomy and Physiology, 12th edition (9780134395326) by Elaine N. Marieb and Suzanne M. Keller. This course is intended for grades 9-12 and may be articulated through Norco College Course Bio-45: Survey of Human Anatomy and Physiology. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction and the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services has approved the above course.
