Summary: Captain David K. Sibley requests ratification of an overnight field trip for California Military Institute (CMI) cadets that attended the HQ CACC Leadership Conference, September 15-17, 2023, at Camp San Luis Obispo in California. The HQ CACC Leadership Conference gathers a broad representation of commandants and cadet leaders at Camp San Luis Obispo to disseminate information on the status of the Cadet Corps and its plans, to share best practices that will improve the Cadet Corps program throughout the state, and to excite our members about the CACC program for the 2023-2024 school year. Commandants and cadet leaders had the opportunity to network, share best practices, and discuss with others how they run the program in their unit. HQ CACC Staff will get feedback from commandants and cadet leaders that will allow us to continue to improve and grow the Cadet Corps program in ways that will be successful at the unit and state levels. The Leadership Conference will consist of three significant events: • The General Assembly, where leaders from HQ CACC will share information on current and future plans and what’s happening within the entirety of the California Cadet Corps. • Seminars where leaders present topics of interest to commandants and/or cadets. Participants may select from a menu of topics that interest them. There will be six 45-minute blocks with various topics being presented (some topics may go over multiple blocks) • Social Event: HQ CACC presents a Dining In on Saturday evening, free to all conference participants. This is where the DFAC dinner will be served. CMI sent five (5) cadets and five (5) chaperones to the Leadership Conference. This overnight field trip is coming to the Board of Education as ratification due to the California Cadet Corp notifying the school site of the conference after the August board meeting.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2023-24 operating budget funded through the Charter Local Control Accountability Plan Supplemental and Concentration Fund, not the Charter General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees ratify the overnight field trip for California Military Institute cadets to attend the California Cadet Corps Leadership Conference at Camp San Luis Obispo, California, September 15-17, 2023.
