Summary: The District's Educational Services Department has recommended updates in our district-wide course catalog. When a course is discovered to need updating or curriculum programs have made changes, the department team is requested to work together to bring the course of study current. The Color Guard instructors revised this course to align with the current standards and curriculum to best support our students. These courses were last revised in 2001. This course is pending to meet the UC/CSU requirement of "F," Visual and Performing Arts.

Color Guard, previously called Jan Flag/Color Guard, the course emphasizes the acquisition and development of fundamental skills in the activity of color guard. Students will train in the area of spin flag, rifle, saber), dance, and performance. This class is a group activity, so learning to perform together is the ultimate goal. During the fall semester, students will perform as part of the marching band and perform at all halftime football games, all public performances, and competitions related to the band. Students will perform as part of the winter color guard during the spring semester and perform at local, regional, and national competitions and public events.

Students will engage in daily aerobic activity, improving cardiovascular performance. They will also experience improvising and performing movement patterns and compositions. Students will be required to spend time outside the normal school day and on weekends to fulfill the requirements for credit for this class.
