Summary: Michelle Gonzalez, Parent Community Liaison, requests approval to travel with Dian Martin, Director of Learning Support Services, Sonia Rezkalah, Community Engagement Specialist, and Learning Support Services Classified Community Liaisons, Viviana Carrillo, Maria Cruz-Smith, Marisol Gonzalez, Teresa Gonzalez, and Azucena Navarette to attend the 2023 National Family Engagement Summit, October 10-14, 2023. PUHSD receives Title I federal funds, and as part of the assurances, the district must conduct outreach to all parents and family members and implement programs, activities, and procedures for the involvement of parents and family members. Such programs, activities, and practices shall be planned and executed with meaningful consultation with the parents and guardians of participating children. This conference will allow Ms. Martin and the family engagement classified staff to gain strategies to promote equitable family engagement practices, discover family engagement practices that lead to maximum learning advances for students, assess the effectiveness of the family engagement efforts in our schools and district; learn how to build the capacity to support collaborative family and school partnerships; and network and exchange ideas with educators from around the nation. Successful Innovations, Inc. and the National Association for Family, School, and Community Engagement are hosting this exclusive family & community engagement conference at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2023-24 operating budget funded through Local Control Accountability Plan Supplemental and Concentration Funds, not the Charter General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the out-of-state conference request for Michelle Gonzalez, Parent Community Liaison, to travel with Dian Martin, Director of Learning Support Services, and Learning Support Services Community Liaisons to the 2023 National Family Engagement Summit in Kansas City, Kansas, October 10-14, 2023.
