Summary: Kirk Skorpanich, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, and Dr. Erika Tejeda, Principal of Liberty High School, request permission from the Board of Trustees to attend the 2022 New Mexico State University Annual Educator's Job Fair for Recruitment in Las Cruces, New Mexico, April 24 - 26, 2022.

The Educators' Job Fair (EJF) is open to new professionals in education, all experienced teachers and school administrators, principals, school counselors, nurses, social workers, and students seeking employment in a school setting with alternative licensure. Candidates in non-teaching majors are invited to discuss school districts' respective licensure programs, career options, and employment opportunities. History has shown that the majority of the candidates will be from New Mexico State University, Western New Mexico University, other regional universities, and the community. However, a growing number of candidates from across the nation are utilizing this event to find challenging positions.

Meaningful work, a caring staff, and innovative technology are the distinguishing characteristics of the Perris Union High School District. Recruiting and retaining high-quality, caring staff is a fundamental responsibility of the Human Resources Division. Due to the difficulty in filling highly competitive teaching positions such as Special Education, Mathematics, and Science, Human Resources has determined that out-of-state recruitment for the upcoming school year will allow Human Resources to market our District opportunities to motivated job seekers. Human Resources endeavors to attract a pool of highly qualified applicants when the competition to find teachers with highly sought-after qualifications becomes more difficult.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2021-22 operating budget funded through Title II Funds at a total cost not to exceed $4,500, not the General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the out-of-state conference request for Kirk Skorpanich, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, and Dr. Erika Tejeda, Principal of Liberty High School to attend the 2022 New Mexico State University Annual Educator's Job Fair for recruitment in Las Cruces, New Mexico, April 24 - 26, 2022.
