Summary: Amy Gelert, Physical Therapist in the Special Education Department, has submitted a request to attend the Myofascial Release Center's Healing Seminar in Sedona, Arizona, February 19-22, 2023.

Ms. Gelert has completed prerequisite certifications in Pediatric Myofascial Release and Level 1 Myofascial Release before coming to PUHSD and began taking intermediate treatment training in November 2022 for Pelvic MFR (the lower body - back, pelvis, and legs). The second part of the intermediate training seminars is in February 2023 for Cervical-Thoracic (upper body - upper back, neck, shoulders, arms). The second part of the training in February 2023 will be offered in Sedona, Arizona.

Ms. Gelert is required to complete 30 hours of continuing education courses every two years to maintain an active Physical Therapist license in the state of California. Attending February's seminar will allow her to obtain the continuing education credits necessary to keep her active licensure.

Ms. Gelert requests the Board of Trustees' consideration and approval of travel and seminar/conference attendance in order to continue providing our students that receive physical therapy services with the utmost progressive treatment. Currently, this treatment has been effective for 58% of our students receiving PT services through Special Education.

The Special Education Department will pay all expenses.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2022-23 operating budget funded through Special Education, not the General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the out-of-state seminar and training request for Amy Gelert, a physical therapist in the Special Education department, to attend the Myofascial Healing Seminar in Sedona, Arizona, February 19-22, 2023.
