Summary: The Riverside County Board of Education has allocated $12,875.00 to the Perris Union High School District through the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Homeless Children and Youth (HCY) I Funds. These funds will be strategically utilized to support our families and students experiencing homelessness. These funds will be directed towards supplementing transportation costs to ensure that students can remain in their school of origin, a critical stability factor for their educational success. This may include providing ride-sharing gift cards specifically to defray the excess transportation costs. Additionally, gift cards will be provided for essential needs such as clothing, hygiene items, and food, ensuring our students have the necessary resources to thrive academically and personally. Strict guidelines will be followed to manage and document the distribution of these funds, including secure storage of gift cards, requiring receipts for purchases, and electronic submission of all documentation by December 15, 2024. These efforts will enhance the support for our most vulnerable students, ensuring that they receive the assistance they need to succeed. This item is being brought before the Board as ratification due to the untimely receipt of the Acknowledgement letter from the Riverside County Board of Education and the need to accept by September 13, 2024 in order to receive the allocation.
Funding: The budget will be adjusted to reflect this revenue.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees ratify the Acknowledgement of Acceptance of the American Rescue Plan Homeless Children and Youth I Funds from the Riverside County Board of Education.
