Summary: Cpt. David Sibley has submitted an overnight field trip request for fifty (50) CMI cadets and seven (7) adult chaperones to participate in Officer Candidate School on the California Military Institute campus, April 8-10, 2022.

Officer Candidate School (OCS) to be hosted at the California Military Institute will give student cadets the chance to experience the inner workings of what it means to lead others and learn the skills needed to become an officer. The purpose of OCS is to train noncommissioned officers of the California Military Institute how to become and lead as a commissioned officer within the California Cadet Corps and CMI. This training will also teach them the core fundamentals of Commissioned Officers, such as how to utilize leadership traits, train junior cadets, and work with them as an officer. The OCS cadets will experience a safe, military-style learning environment. Cadet instructors, adult staff, and OCS cadets will arrive after school at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2022, before the candidates arrive for preparation. There is no cost to the cadets for attending this event. Food will be funded through the California Military Institute CMD-MOU fund at a total cost not to exceed $1,000.00.
Funding: The cost for this item is included in the 2021-22 operating budget funded through the California Military Institute CMD-MOU Fund, not the General Fund.
Recommendation: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees approve the overnight field trip requests for California Military Institute Cadets to attend the Officer Candidate School, April 8-10, 2022 at the California Military Institute.
