Summary:
The District's Educational Services Department has recommended updates in our district-wide course catalog. When a course is discovered to be in the best interest of the students, instructors are brought together to create a course for additional student offerings. The RCOE Introduction to ESports and Game Design is the introductory course in the Games and Simulation Pathway number 175. RCOE Introduction to ESports and Game Design allows students to gain "foundational" knowledge in multiple "high-growth" industry verticals (such as business, marketing, game development, cybersecurity, etc.) "via" ESports. Students will be introduced to the Esports lifecycle, starting with the business of ESports, continuing with the game development lifecycle, foundations in cybersecurity, creation of an actual game (using Unreal Engine), media production, health and nutrition, and marketing. The culminating final project will have students demonstrate understanding by following every step of the lifecycle - as they ideate, develop, and market a game. Students will also learn soft skills such as performance training, teamwork, and leadership. This course is intended for all high school grade levels and has been approved by UC/CSU for a "G" Elective. This is the first of three ESports and Game Design courses for the ESports courses of study.
