Summary:
|
The District's Educational Services Department has recommended updates in our district-wide course catalog. When a course is discovered beneficial to students and the district feels there may be a need for the course, new courses are submitted. We are submitting the new Elective courses Military Leadership 5, Military Leadership 6, Military Leadership 7, Military Leadership 8, Military Leadership 9, Military Leadership 10, Military Leadership 11, and Military Leadership 12. The Military Leadership series of courses will provide the fundamentals of basic life skills through leadership development. The courses will explore the principles of leadership within the California Cadet Corps. The content covered within this 5th through 12th grade Military Leadership curriculum is extensive, and discipline-specific skills associated with this subject are equally rigorous. Educators are encouraged to focus on four core topics aligned with the California Cadet Corps (CACC) for their instructional plans to highlight significant developments, trends, and events related to the subject matter. Structuring the curriculum around the CACC values of Leadership, Citizenship, Wellness, and Military Subjects facilitates an extensive exploration of the content. It allows students to cultivate a thorough understanding of the subject matter. These four core content areas within the Military Leadership program allow educators to prioritize content and emphasize particular skills through students' hands-on application of the topics. Furthermore, a comprehensive practice of firsthand experiences in drills, uniform inspections, ceremonies, etc., enables students to exhibit their learning of the content within the four core themes of Military Subjects: Leadership, Wellness, and Citizenship. These instructional units will feature a cumulative written, verbal, and tactile performance task as a promotion assessment each semester that can lead to their advancement to the next rank. There is no textbook associated with these courses, and none of the courses meet the UC/CSU A-G requirements. |
