Summary:
The District's Educational Services Department has recommended updates in our district-wide course catalog. When a course is identified as being in the best interest of our students, we create or adopt it to meet that need. The new Dual Enrollment Mt. San Jacinto College course of Human Development Psychology 103 is being brought forward as a new course for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. This course meets the UC/CSU transfer requirements for the "GA" Social Science Elective and will receive an elective credit. This course is intended for grades 10-12. The Human Development Psyc103 Dual Enrollment (DE) course focuses on the human lifespan, examining individuals' psychological, cognitive, physical, social, and socio-cultural developments from conception to the end-of-life Journey. Contemporary developmental theories and research will be emphasized. This course will require students to differentiate between various historical and cultural factors that may impact the development of individuals as unique beings and investigate the major theories of child development, including but not limited to psychoanalytic behavioral, ecological, and cognitive theories. The course will examine complex Concepts and terminology to analyze real problems. The study of human development utilizes various research methods to analyze the diverse approaches to understanding cognitive and social growth. Students will evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each methodology as we explore the different learning styles and discuss strategies to optimize learning for individuals.
