Summary:
Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation has allocated $10,000.00 to the Perris Union High School District through the 2024 Neighborhood Grant Agreement. The grant will significantly impact Paloma Valley High School (PVHS) by enhancing its garden-based education program, fostering health education, and promoting nutritious eating habits among students. This funding will expand the school garden, providing much-needed supplies and support for educators while integrating hands-on cooking and tasting activities. Through this program, PVHS students will gain practical experience in growing their food, learning about the importance of a healthy diet, and developing a deeper connection to the environment. The program will also extend its reach to Evans Ranch Elementary School, with PVHS students mentoring younger peers and sharing their knowledge and excitement about healthy food options. This grant will enable PVHS to make a lasting impact on the community, where fast food consumption is prevalent and access to fresh produce is limited. By donating 50% of the garden's produce to the local food pantry and using the rest to support school salad bars, PVHS will address local food insecurity and promote healthier eating habits. The garden program will also serve as a platform for community engagement through events like "Art in the Park" "and the proposed community Farmer's Market, fostering a sustainability and health awareness culture. As the program grows, it aims to become self-sustaining, supported by community involvement and student-led initiatives, ultimately transforming the nutritional landscape of the school and the surrounding community.
Funding:
The budget will be adjusted to reflect this revenue.
