The Special Education Department has had to make a trip to determine if the student qualifies for special education support and services. The parent has unilaterally placed the student in a residential treatment center. Per state and federal statutes, the District has to either assess the student to determine LRE or fund the placement. The District has agreed to assess the student and determine if the student qualifies and what level of support is appropriate for a free public education.
On June 16, 2019, the Special Education Department sent the Director of Special Education, Cindy Barris, to League City, Texas, as part of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team to complete the informal psychoeducational evaluation, as well as an Educational Related Mental Health Evaluation (ERMHS) on a student who is residentially placed there. The student is coming to Perris Union High School District from out of District, and the District needs to assess social, emotional, cognitive, and academic ability to verify that the student is in the least restrictive placement. This timeframe was required to meet compliance.
This item is going as ratification because the trip was deemed necessary on short notice, as the parents recently moved into our District. |
